Essentials by Ellen - Two Takes on a Trend

Good morning! Today I'm in The CLASSroom at Ellen Hutson. I'm one of Two Takes on a Trend, inspired by this:

UltraViolet is Pantone's colour of the year for 2018 and this dreamy palette of heathery purples, greys and greens is just gorgeous!

I mostly focused on the vegetables (are they peas? beans? I have never seen them in this  colour!) - their horizontal, wavy lines and colours, plus the gold of the god's head in the field of flowers.

I quickly identified the distress inks I wanted to use and blended a 4.25 x 5 panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock, fading out to white at the top (so easy to blend on this smooth paper!). I was a bit nervous about the green to purple blend, so I tried to minimize the amount of space. In the end, I think it turned out great! I misted the panel with a Nuvo spritzer - the finer drops of water added just the right amount of texture to the colours, without taking too much of it away.

Once the coloured panel was dry, I laid my new Strands die (from the Essentials by Ellen January release) on the panel and cut out from the centre to the top, turned the die and cut a gain from the centre to the bottom. I removed the outline and placed the strips together on a piece of computer paper with Be Creative tape on it. I trimmed the panel and adhered it to a dark grey mat. I cut my sentiment out of gold mirror card backed with Be Creative tape (makes it easier to glue down!)

I used:

Happy Birthday, Catherine!

Today is Catherine Pooler's birthday! I made this Clean and Simple card for her as part of the Birthday Card Stash - done! class at StampNation.

I created my scalloped panel with a scalloped rectangle die from the Counting Blessings Stamp of Approval Collection (sold out, but will be available in the future), using a technique I showed in a video here, to cut it into a scalloped square.

I inlaid a gray Winnie & Walter Happy into the white panel. I used a portion of the wreath as my greenery and then stamped some colourful tiny flowers around it.

FS571 - Eat Cake

Congratulations to this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper, Lisa (aka MaryLisaK).

I chose this card as my inspiration:

I focused on Lisa's:
-four-big-characters as focal point
-celebrate die cut

I changed:
-occasion
-numbers to letters
-colours

I used my grid mat to line up my letters and then taped them together and cut them out of my front panel. I then blended distress ink onto another panel, to show through. I kept the little centres of the letters to add back in.

Now. I don't actually have an 'eat' die cut. (do you?!)  But if you look closely at that Essentials by Ellen Celebrate, the 'at' is together. I trimmed them out of the word, trimmed an 'e' and glued them onto my card front. Go take a closer look - you can hardly tell! I used a Quickie glue pen to adhere the thin die cuts. Its fine tip is perfect for delicate jobs like this.

NON47 - Make a Wish

Good morning! Here's a quick and somewhat snarky birthday card I made using some Catherine Pooler and CAS-ual Fridays goodies for the Birthday Stash event at StampNation as well as for the current Naughty or Nice Challenge

This card has nothing but stamping on it. Almost.

I started by stamping the yellow border and then added the swirl (looks like wind blowing, right?) by stamping off my grey ink for a softer look. I then fit the sentiment around it.

I finished by smooshing some Versamark ink along the bottom edge and embossing with sparkly embossing powder to add some sparkle and interest.

I focused on Anita's:
-floral birthday theme
-layout
-teal colour
-metallic embossing

Don't forget there's a giveaway at Muse for one lucky participant!

Love is In the Air Stamp of Approval - Now Available!

Stamps: BonVoyage, Happiness Enclosed
Inks: Black Jack, NEW Mystery Ink (included in the Collection!)

This simple little Valentine has a trick - to stamp the heart so that it looks like it's inside the paper plane, I had to do a little creative masking. But it's not difficult - here's a video - it's a remake, so I didn't use the same inks (can't give away the name of that Mystery Ink!!), but you'll get the idea of the technique.

Seize the Birthday, IB77 - Happy Brrrthday!

I'm back with a chilly birthday card using new products from the January Essentials by Ellen Release. These little guys from the Arctic Friends set (there are matching dies!) are adorable and make a sweet little trio of friends.

My background was made with the new Strands die and is inspired by one of my favourite Canadian artists, Leanne Spanza.

CTS253 - Oh So Sweet

I have a sweet new baby card for this week's CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, using some of the latest Essentials by Ellen products.

I started by stamping the papa-bear and then masking him, masking a horizon and blending a sky with Distress Ink. I stamped and die-cut the mama and baby bears, and coloured all 3 with copics.

I'm also linking up to Ellen's Mix it Up Challenge with Concord & 9th.

BONUS: Play along with Muse this week for a chance to win this set!

And here are a couple more cards:

FS570 - Love You

Congratulations to this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper, Tracy! (aka Tracy_inkyfingers).

I chose this pretty card as my inspiration:

I focused on Tracy's:
-watercolour background
-colours
-stacked white die cut

I changed:
-added more 'form' to the watercolour background (see below for description and video)
-used a die cut as my sentiment
-spritzed the background and stamped hearts instead of sequins
-dark card base

I used stamps and dies from the Love is in the Air Stamp of Approval Collection from Catherine Pooler Designs, which will be available to Stamp Nation members and the Wait List in the next couple of days. See yesterday's post for more details of how you can win this collection of amazing goodies (and below for today's blog hop list!)!

I started by painting a heart with clean, clear water, on watercolour cardstock. I then added some of Catherine's vibrant inks, letting the water move and blend the colours.

It's Day 2 of the pre-release Blog Hops - if you want to win your Love is in the Air Collection, make sure to hop and comment!

Now, let's get on with my projects!

Sending Love Postcard
Stamps: Love is in the Air, Happiness Enclosed, Bon Voyage
Ink: NEW Mystery ink, Black Jack
Dies: Postage Stamp Dies
Paper: Catherine Pooler White and Smoke

I used a number of stamps from 3 different sets to make a post-card full of love. The hand-lettered feel of the various sentiments really lends an authentic feel to it. The Postage Stamp Dies include a couple of stitched rectangles, and the smallest Postage Stamp die is (of course!) perfect as a stamp!

Rainbow Love
Stamps: Love is in the Air
Ink: Tiki Torch, Orange Twist, Tutti Frutti, Rockin Red, NEW Mystery Ink, Flirty Fuschia, Something Borrowed, Fiesta Blue, Aquatini, Lime Rickey, Melon Mist
Dies: Postage Stamp Dies, Love Die
Paper: Catherine Pooler White and Black

I used one edge of the largest Postage Stamp die to create a fun, bumpy border that these rainbow hearts nestle right into! These inks are so luscious and vibrant that I absolutely love using as many as I can to make a rainbow! I inlaid the love die.

Peacock Love
 Stamps: Bon Voyage
Ink: Tiki Torch, Party Dress, Flirty Fuschia, NEW Mystery Ink, Black Jack
Dies: Bon Voyage Accoutrement Dies (Add-on to SOA Collection), Postage Stamp Dies
Paper: Catherine Pooler White, Smoke and Mirrors

I used the little geo tag stamp and die to create a frame for the Love banner (which is designed to fit on the hot air balloon stamp included in the set).

Be sure to visit Catherine's blog to see all the products in detail.

There are two more days of blog hops before the collection will be released on Tuesday, January 9.
And you can win your box by commenting on the stops on the hops!

One winner will be chosen at random from each day's comments and announced on January 10 on Catherine's blog. The winners will win their box and if they already bought it, they will be issued a Gift Certificate worth $100 towards a future purchase.
