OLW118 - Snowflake Geometry

This week's One Layer Wednesday challenge is being hosted by Cheryl and the challenge is to use snowflakes.

For this hand-drawn/stamped snowflake, I went back to math class and got out my ruler and protractor and measured angles. I drew the 12 lines in pencil first (6 long and 6 short), then I got out two little easily forgotten stamps from Paper Smooches' Sugar Rush set (an empty circle and a teardrop) and stamped them over the pencil lines. Finally, I got out my Copic Multiliner and the ruler and joined up the shapes before erasing all the pencil, colouring with Copics and adding tiny dots of Stickles in each teardrop.

On another note, my husband came home with my early Christmas present last night. It's a new computer with Windows 8 (I've been playing around a little with it in the stores - it looks SO COOL!). My current computer is almost 10 years old and has been in serious decline for the last little while. I'm excited, but nervous - I have no idea how to move to a new machine and very little idea about how my 'work routine' will look once I'm using Windows 8. If you don't hear from me for a few days, you'll know why! (Don't worry, my CAS(E) This Sketch card for tomorrow is scheduled - hope you'll play along!)

  5. This is truly a hand-made treasure, and I'm so envious of your drawing skills! The coloring isn't too bad either! *wink*
Good luck with that new computer! I felt like I needed a college education to grasp Win7 after using WinXP for 11 uneventful years!

  6. Ardyth, you have completely knocked my socks off with your creativity! You created your own snowflake!!! It's beautiful, and you are amazing!

Enjoy your new computer! Moving from a 10 year old to a brand new computer, you won't know yourself. :-)

  7. I am seeing a line of Ardyth stamps in your future. This is so elegant and beautifully drawn. As someone who moved to a snowy country and became enchanted by snow I am always happy to see 6 pronged snowflakes not those 8 pronged "fakers"

  14. Give the girl and pencial and a ruler and she will create!!! This is fabulous. You truly have established a beautiful, distintive style.

Heather might really be onto something...a set of Ardyth inspired stamps! I would definitely be the first in line to buy them!

  17. I'm catching up a bit today. It's always a bit overwhelming to miss a few days with you and come back to creative overload! Starting with this stunner. Wow, Ardy! Now you know I'm going to add stamp designer to my stained glass designer career suggestion for you!! Just making cards with other images is a waste of your talent, if you ask me. I thought I heard you ask me.

  19. Wow, Ardyth ... I know you love snowflake stamps but why do you need them? You already have all you need in your hands and your head ... roll on Ardyth Stamps (great idea Heather)! This is so beautiful, I love the stunning colours and that little touch of sparkliness on the teardrops! Anita :)

  20. What a perfect ending to my "Ardyth time" ... you drew a snowflake. Just perfect! That should totally be a challenge ... use your protractor to create a design. Hmmm, maybe you should start your own challenge blog ...
